m/s Prins Albert

As is common with sisterships, the same photograph would be used for both ships.

Although titled as the Prins Albert, it is the m/s Prince Baudouin, the sistership to Prins Albert

m/s Prince Baudouin passes m/s prins Albert

M.S. "Prins Albert" was launched at Hoboken-Antwerp (Belgium) 23 April 1937. The photograph above was taken  shortly after the launch at Cockerills Yard, Hoboken, Belgium

Entered services on the Ostend-Dover line (Belgium to England) on 4 October.

 Max speed 25.5 knots.  Gross ton:2944

Her carrying capacity was for as many as 1800 passengers.

She took part in the Dieppe and Lofoten (Norway) (commando's) raids 

After she was moved south into the Mediterranean for the North-African and Sicily invasions, where she was attacked by German U-boats. After the Normandy landings, she sailed to India and Burma and Singapore. She carried more than 25.000 soldiers.


She returned to Belgium in April 1946 and re-entered service in June 1947. Withdrawn and broken up in Belgium 1970.
