World War Two and beyond

Many people say that I have misspelt the word PRINS or PRINSES, I can assure you I am correct.

The explanation is as follows:-

Belgium has three different national languages.

  60% Flemish/Dutch;

 30% Walloon (French);

and 10% Eupisch (German).

    Since the independence of Belgium in 1830, there has been a row between the North (Flemish) and the South (Walloon).

So every ferry newbuild had to have a French or Flemish (Dutch) name.

  E.g. in 1975, the PRINSES Maria-Esmerelda was built

and in 1976 the PRINCESSE Marie-Christine was built .

PRINSES=Dutch spelling and

 PRINCESSE=French spelling

 E.g. in 1975, the PRINSES Maria-Esmerelda was built

and in 1976 the PRINCESSE Marie-Christine was built .

PRINSES=Dutch spelling and

 PRINCESSE=French spelling
